While upgrading to a Quest or Avalon pedestal make sure to select the right idler assembly.
The alignment between sprocket and idlers is important for the performance and durability of the steering system. It keeps the wires running cleanly through the sheaves and grooves of the radial or quadrant. The sheaves are farther aft than standard idler assemblies to keep the steering wires away from integrated single lever engine control and engine cables.
The compact idlers are designed specificaly for the Quest, Avalon, and Vision II Pedestals.
Crossed Wire Adjustable Compact Idlers
The crossed wire idlers are designed specifically for systems with a radial, or when the pedestal is forward of the rudder post and the quadrant faces aft of the rudder post. 4" diameter sheaves are used with 3/16" wire. 6" diameter sheaves are used with 1/4" wire. Both are compatible with 4mm Dyneema as an alternative to 7x19 wire of either size.
Adjustable Compact Idlers
Adjustable idlers are designed for quadrant systems. When the pedestals is forward of the rudder post and the quadrant faces forward of the rudder post. 4" diameter sheaves are used with 3/16" wire. 6" diameter sheaves are used with 1/4" wire. Both are compatible with 4mm Dyneema as an alternative to 7x19 wire of either size.
